About us
Homes for Northumberland Limited is a non-profit making company responsible for the management of over 8,500 homes in the county of Northumberland. The company is an “Arms Length Management Organisation” working in partnership with Northumberland County Council.
Homes for Northumberland came into being on 1st April 2009 following local government re-organisation in Northumberland. The company was originally formed in February 2002 as an ALMO with the name of Blyth Valley Housing in order to manage the housing stock of what was then Blyth Valley Borough Council.
On 1st April 2009, the company changed its name to Homes for Northumberland and at the same time took over the management of the housing stock of the former Alnwick District Council.
Northumberland County Council now owns all of the council stock within the county. Homes for Northumberland manages the homes on behalf of the council under the terms of a formal Management Agreement. This agreement sets out the functions and the standards of service that are to be provided by the company. Tenants and leaseholders living in the homes which the company manages are tenants or leaseholders of the Council.
