Equality and Diversity
Homes for Northumberland aims to meet housing needs by providing excellent housing services and decent homes in safe and stable communities. Our vision is to provide the highest quality of service to our customers and to provide working conditions that help motivate our people and make them feel valued. To do these things successfully, we recognise that we must also value equality and diversity and seek to promote fair treatment for all.
Homes for Northumberland are committed to promoting equality and acknowledging diversity. We believe that it it’s the right of every person to be treated with dignity and respect regardless of age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief.
In July 2011, Homes for Northumberland agreed its new Single Equality Scheme, which shows our compliance with the Equality Act 2010. Equality Impact Assessments
An equality impact assessment (EIA) is a tool to assess the potential for policies, services and function to impact on customers and staff. The EIA also provides an opportunity for staff to think carefully about the impact of their work on the people they serve.
The EIA process is not only a legal requirement under a number of acts including the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 but also enables the organisation to improve policies etc for the benefit of the whole community.
The EIA focuses on specific equality strands:
- age
- disability
- gender reassignment
- race and ethnicity
- religion of belief
- sex
- sexual orientation
Listed below are the EIA's that have been completed during 2011-2012:
